2020 Outdoor Season and Coronavirus measures

Published Mon 16 Mar 2020

Senior training starts this Tuesday, 17 March 2020 from 7-8pm on the Watt field with the first round of the senior competition commencing on the weekend starting 27 March 2020.

At this stage, the hockey competition and training will be business as usual.  Obviously the coronavirus situation will create some challenges for us all in the coming months but at the moment, the advice from Hockey Australia is for increased hygiene measures and for players to implement self-exclusion if they are exhibiting fu-like symptoms.  Measures we need to take as a club include:

  • no handshaking before and after games (if anyone has any ideas of alternative non-contact polite Wests club gesture we can adopt, please let us know!)
  • label your water bottle - water bottles should be strictly single person use
  • no shared fruit or lollies
  • mouthguards washed after each game, followed by washing of hands
  • cover nose and mouth with tissue or flexed elbow when coughing or sneezing
  • keep a 1.5m distance from anyone coughing or sneezing
  • wash hands with soap and water and dry with paper towel before and after games and training
  • disposable gloves to be used if attending to players with injuries

We will let you know if there are any further measures to be implemented in terms of social distancing methods to be put in place for our health and safety.
