2021 Season Ends with CL Premierships

Published Sun 19 Sep 2021

The lockdown extension to 15 October has ended the 2021 season with the top-placed teams declared premiers.

While the circumstances are less than ideal, missing out on the last few rounds of the season and a finals campaign, congratulations to our CL1 and CL2 men who continue to dominate the Capital League competition and have been declared premiers for 2021 in their respective grades.

We appreciate there is nothing better than the euphoria of winning a grand final (and the celebrations which follow!).  However, the hard slog of turning up week after week and racking up those points to be top of the ladder is not to be underestimated.  Well done to the boys for their consistent performance during the season and treating us to some great hockey along the way.

That makes four premierships in a row for CL1 and they have finished the season top of the ladder for those four years.  CL2 have now won three premierships in a row, finishing top of the ladder for those three years as well, with another season being undefeated. In fact, CL2 have only lost 2 games in the past three seasons.  That is a remarkable and sustained achievement by our two top teams and a reflection of the dedication and hardwork put in by our players, coaches and managers.  A big thank you to all our supporters as well - there is nothing better than looking up into the stands and seeing all the red.  Now that we have new tracksuits, the pressure is on to keep up the Wests dominance!

Congratulations to our 13/2 boys who also continued to dominate their competition, defending their premiership from last season and being named premiers for this season with another impressive season record.

Thank you and well done to all our other teams and given the pandemic situation, we are grateful for the opportunity to get close to full seasons of hockey played over the past two years.  Hopefully things will settle down and we can return to a normal season in 2022.

Thank you to everyone who makes our hockey season possible, particularly our coaches, managers, umpires, our amazing co-ordinators and committee, our dedicated sponsors, parents and supporters.  CL success does not happen in a vacuum so thank you to everyone who plays "Wests Hockey" with us, displaying our strong club values on the field week after week across all the grades.

Cheer, cheer the red and the white!
