Mens Super Indoor

Wests men's super indoor team were crowned the 2020-21 premiers after an exciting finals series played at Lyneham last Wednesday night.

Winning the title back from Central made it our third in four years but the boys had to play both a sudden death semi versus Checks followed by the grand final against Central all on one night. Though winning 7-1 and 6-3 respectively neither result was a certainty as both Josh Carter and Davis Atkins were unavailable leaving Wests with a roster of just seven players versus Checks with 9 and Central with 11 - virtually two teams, so each had plenty of subs. But our boys skills and experience stood out, first overcoming an enthusiastic Checks and then a very determined Central.

During the final, the teams level-pegged and the score was locked 3-3 half-way through as Central regularly rested its old guard and brought on younger legs. Wests determination gradually tipped the game though as Central became more frustrated with being unable to convert scoring chances as the boys drew away to a convincing final score of 6-3. Crucially, Wests form going into the finals was outstanding and the boys played to plan. Lachie J was a legend in goals, Gaz nabbed a single and also won player of the competition (indoor equal to a Brophy Medal), and the reach of Magic Matt Mackenzie stole the ball away from many an opponent time and again. Neo, Gus (one goal each) and Lachie N were like ninjas turning defence into attack all night long, while our big gun Elliot scored a hat-trick. He was also top goal scorer for the competition.

Many thanks to Joey for coaching and having a fill-in game during the season, Al Hill for managing and the HACT tech bench volunteers and the umpires. Well done boys! A great result for the team and one we can all be proud of as a Club.

Men's SL1 Indoor

The SL1 boys had an even tougher finals night on Monday, playing both the semi and grandfinal with no subs.  Despite the lack of a bench, the boys had a convincing win in their semi-final against Central, winning 6-3 with dogged defence, great team goals and Ed York scoring a hat-trick.  Playing a grandfinal against Checks (who have dominated the SL1 competition for years despite playing without a goalie) with only six players was always going to be a big ask.  The boys toughed it out and made Checks work hard for their goals, eventually going down 5-2 with Ed and Shuey getting in a couple of second half goals.  Colin Trinder had a blinder in goals and our defenders John, Nick and Sully put up a valient effort to keep Checks to a respectable score. It was a shame we were unable to defend our premiership from last year but looking forward to giving Checks a run for their money next season.

Thank you to Alex Trinder for coaching and well done to the boys.
